Beeffalo by Hotrocks Marikina – New look, same old favorite restaurant

I remember back in February, while I was confined for a minor medical procedure at the Antipolo Doctors Hospital, Alex mentioned to me that he ate at a steak and ribs place just in front of the hospital. He promised to take me there and he did. I loved the place not only because of their juicy steak but also because of its colorful, yet homey, vibe. The place was Beeffalo by Hotrocks Antipolo. Fast forward to October, and I finally get to try dining at its original branch, Beeffalo by Hotrocks Marikina, and I was even more satisfied.

Beeffalo by Hotrocks Marikina

The city of Marikina has become famous for its hole in the wall food spots but we seldom get the chance to dine there. I was kind of surprised that Beeffalo was located right at the end of Gil Fernando Avenue, a long road that stretches back to Marcos Highw...

Mercato Centrale now in a better location in BGC

Mercato Centrale has officially moved to a new and more accessible location in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Now set up at the corner of 7th Avenue and 25th Street, foodies can now easily find it across The Forum and in front of the “Between  The Lines” art mural (or The Spaceman as it is more popularly known. It’s now nearer to the offices which is good news for the yuppies of BGC who are looking for an affordable place for a Friday hangout.

Mercato Centrale is open every Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to 3 am. It still has the same lively, food fair vibe it’s known for. Most especially, old-time favorites such as Auntie May, Cuisiner, and Don Churro, are still around to serve their famous fare.

Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken and Sauce Bar, Capitol Commons

The Pasig Kapitolyo area has started to gain popularity for having quite a number of must-try restaurants and hole-in-the-wall foodie havens. Honestly, I’m already living in the East side of Manila and just in the town next to Pasig but I haven’t even scratched the surface, so to speak. Last week, I found the time to visit Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken and Sauce Bar in Capitol Commons, Pasig, and boy I’m glad I did!

It was lunchtime when I arrived and the place was already starting to get crowded with yuppies taking their lunch break. Capitol Commons’ close proximity to the offices along Shaw Boulevard and the Ortigas Business District explains this.

Labanos Burger Steak

Last week, we harvested our first batch of home-grown labanos (radishes). Of course, we were so excited at first that almost every meal we had had fresh labanos salad until each of us didn’t want to even smell a single radish, LOL!

Radishes ready for harvest, a week more for the okra, and 2 for the pechay. #organic #vegetable #garden

This was the Instagram shot I took before we pulled out the radishes.

Home-grown radishes

Nothing beats fresh and organic veggies!

We obviously had excess radish and the boys didn’t want to eat a single radish anymore. But I didn’t want it to go to waste and I thought, well if they don’t see the radish, they’ll eat the dish. What better way to hide radishes in a dish than to make burgers! Anyway, I already tried mixing in turnips and carrots when I make burger patties or lumpiang shanghai filling so I knew it would work. To make the burgers yummier for ulam, I then thought of mixing the grilled burger patties with mushroom gravy.

And so, my  very own creation, Labanos Burger Steak, was born!
