Streetfood Trippin’ at Old Chang Kee in Singapore

For our recent trip to Singapore, my boy did his research and specifically concentrated on finding the best hawker centers in town. Aside from finding about Kopitiam, he was also able to read about Old Chang Kee. Luckily, we passed by the stall along North Bridge Road just across Funan Digitalife Mall so we bought some of their bestsellers for snacks back at our hotel.

STK ta Bay! sa Paolito’s Seafood House

Booking ourselves a room in Gran Tierra Suites near the Cebu City capitol proved to be an advantage as we were just within walking distance to the restaurants in Orchid Street. On our first night in Cebu, we had dinner at Kuya J Restaurant which is just across STK ta Bay! STK ta Bay! was already crowded when we arrived. Thus, on our second night, we made sure that we arrive in the place early enough to reserve us some good seats.

Just like Kuya J’s, STK ta Bay! was once a home that was converted into a restaurant. Food is grilled by the garage entrance which also serves as a dining area should it becomes crowded inside.

Kainan sa Tabing Lawa

Our latest food trip sent us driving more than an hour away from our place in Cainta. It was my husband who discovered it after watching it being featured on a show one Sunday. As it turns out, Kainan sa Tabing Lawa has been one of Tanay’s famous restaurants since the 60’s.

Lately, we have been eating in what I call, “don’t judge a book by its cover” restaurants. (Remember, Tamerlane’s?) Kainan sa Tabing Lawa is an addition to that growing list. Outside, it just looks like a big rustic cottage built of nipa and bamboo. Inside is an eatery with ordinary looking chairs and tables. No airconditioning, too.

Kuya J Restaurant

We just had a short vacation in Cebu City a week after my Rap’s school ended. We were all first-timers and all I knew about Cebu were the things I read from the Internet. Thankfully, Cebu Pacific’s Smile Magazine for March featured top dining spots in Cebu. That’s how we got to read about Kuya J Restaurant.

Very homey!

Kuya J Restaurant is one of the many small restaurants that sits among the residential units along Orchid St. near the city’s capitol. It’s only a block away from Gran Tierra Suites where we were billeted so we just walked to reach the place. It’s also directly in front of STK Ta Bay, another popular seafood grill resto in the area (we also had dinner there but that would be for a separate post).
