Beeffalo by Hotrocks Marikina – New look, same old favorite restaurant

I remember back in February, while I was confined for a minor medical procedure at the Antipolo Doctors Hospital, Alex mentioned to me that he ate at a steak and ribs place just in front of the hospital. He promised to take me there and he did. I loved the place not only because of their juicy steak but also because of its colorful, yet homey, vibe. The place was Beeffalo by Hotrocks Antipolo. Fast forward to October, and I finally get to try dining at its original branch, Beeffalo by Hotrocks Marikina, and I was even more satisfied.

Beeffalo by Hotrocks Marikina

The city of Marikina has become famous for its hole in the wall food spots but we seldom get the chance to dine there. I was kind of surprised that Beeffalo was located right at the end of Gil Fernando Avenue, a long road that stretches back to Marcos Highw...

1st Colonial Grill, Naga City Centro

In the summer of 2014, my business had me and Alex driving to Legazpi City in Albay. Being the adventurous foodies that we are, of course, we also grabbed the chance to try out what’s offered by the province’s local restos. One of the restaurants in Legazpi City that we tried was 1st Colonial Grill in Pacific Mall.

While the husband ordered something that’s not so Bicolano, I got Pasta Bicolana (which was more like Aglio Olio with siling labuyo) and the restaurant’s specialty, Colonial Burger. For dessert, we each got a serving of its Sili Ice Cream and Pili Ice Cream. The frozen delights were enough to convince us to come back with Ralph in tow.

Amici’s New Italian Dishes and 6th Anniversary Buy 1, Take 1 Promo

Back when we were still living in Makati and Rap was in Prep at the Don Bosco Technical Institute, we would always dine at Amici de Don Bosco. I never got to eat there for lunch because the place would always be full of office workers taking their lunch break. Usually, I would have merienda there with other soccer moms while we wait for our boys to finish their training. Those were such happy times! Their pizza and pasta were my comfort food. The year was 2006.

Fast forward to 2013, the once quaint Italian “carinderia” has now grown to include 7 more branches around the metro under the management of the father and son team of Danny and Philip Moran. Even after acquiring the business from the Salesian priests who set up and managed the restaurant in 2007, the Morans continue to maintain the friendship by supporting Tuloy Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization founded by Salesian priest, Fr. Rocky Evangelista. In fact, Php 10 from the sales of items listed in the “Tuloy Speciali” Amici Menu goes directly to the foundation to help fund their projects.
